Snowmamas Winter Getaway!!

July 13, 2011

Every year, I drag my wife and child on numerous vacations across the west. Most of these involve some sort of low-cost primitive lodging and high out put and intense outdoor activity. In general, we ‘vacation’ more then the average family. Typically, our vacations cost less than 300 for a week and my wife and child need several days to recover from the ‘pure JOY’ of the trip. Just recently, we drove and camped in the Tetons and Glacier. As you can see in the above photo, despite my wife’s consoling smile, the trip took a significant toll on my better halves (or thirds!). In total, we hiked, biked, or ran almost 100 miles, not counting the extra miles chasing our 2-year-old around. Even a few days later, our two year old was having ‘flash backs’ and screaming episodes from pack withdraw.

On the rare occasion, of being able to better provide and meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of both of my lovely ladies during a vacation, a radical transformation occurs. Instead, a sort of jubilant excitement pervades from their pores. They become willing participants in my insane schemes and seem to enjoy these moments of adventure and exploration more. Perhaps, in many regards I am not the most ‘deserving‘ for the Snowmamas Winter Getaway, but perhaps my family is!
