Now that’s a Recovery Run!

March 30, 2011

‘Ahhhhhh’ Now that feels better.
After several weeks off and vacillating between various diagnoses. I was feeling strong enough to stretch the legs and see what they could do. A few friends were heading out for a 20 mile run and asked for me to tag along. We made a later then usual start time, in hopes of warming temperatures.
At the trail head, I prefaced the run with an, ‘I don’t know how I am gonna do.’ Which of coarse these guys knew was a load of *&^.
And off we went. initially my abdominal concerns, and potential sports hernia, halted any efforts of ascending and descending major hills. Shortly, the desire for climbing superseded this and we were up and away climbing gently and descending the foothills beyond the University of Utah. As one of our staple routes during the transitional season we did not head above snow line and stayed on dry trails as much as possible.
Feeling Stronger we stayed to the coarse and did a healthy 14 miles. Although, the distance was shy of the desired 20 for the others, we were all jovial and excited to be running together after the heightened concern for the end of my running season. A normally benign run, became a rejuvenating experience that gave me hope for many runs to come in the future months.
Here’s to running season. (Don’t tell my ski buddies)
